The porch light had been on for six hours straight when the knock finally came. A four-year-old girl had wandered off from a backyard birthday party just before sunset, and by nightfall, half the town was out looking. Flashlights swept through cornfields. Then, just after two in the morning, a delivery driver on a rural route spotted a small shape curled up asleep in the open bed of an old grain trailer parked behind a barn nearly two miles from home.
