I’m standing here because of them — that’s why I brought this Thanksgiving meal. My grandfather, Walter Greene, is 78. Earlier this year, he went through a serious medical scare that turned our whole family upside down. The doctors and nurses at St. Mary’s Regional Hospital worked around the clock to help him recover. They treated him with patience, respect, and the kind of kindness you never forget. So on Thanksgiving morning, instead of sitting at home, Walter put on his best sweater, carried a baked turkey, two homemade pies, and a small handwritten card — and went straight back to the hospital. He told the staff, “I wanted to share this meal with the people who helped me stay here a little longer.” The nurses cleared a little space in their break room, made coffee, and gathered around while he served everyone a slice. He thanked each doctor and nurse by name. He told them they felt like a second family. And for him, that small table in the hospital was more meaningful than any big holiday dinner. Sometimes gratitude doesn’t need speeches or gifts — just a warm meal and the courage to say, “Thank you for giving me another chance.”
